“Happiness is like jam; you can’t spread even a little without getting some on yourself!” – Anonymous

Doesn’t this just conjure up some delightful imagery? It also reminds me of how honey always seems to find its way not only off the spoon or knife but also on to the outside of the jar, leaving you with deliciously sticky fingers every time you open it.

It’s a new way to look at happiness – one I’d neither seen nor heard before – and we’ve heard how smiles or laughter can be contagious, but that word often has negative connotations – especially these days!

And now comes along a metaphor that really appeals to our inner child – the idea that we make a glorious mess whenever we prepare a jam sandwich! That sugary, sticky, fruity yumminess we spend more time licking off our hands than eating off our toast.

Isn’t this a great way to see the happiness and joy that we are all capable of sharing with others – the fact that what we share comes back to us, sometimes in a more enjoyable way than that with which we shared it in the first place? When we display our happiness to the world, we have the power to reach everyone and everything in it – spreading positivity, motivation and inspiration wherever we go.

Imagine how many people could be reached and how quickly, if we all simultaneously and spontaneously decided to just do it right now? That’s much better than any zombie disaster film or other such depressingly negative doom-mongering!

Let’s all be jammy instead and spread different red stuff (or orange stuff, or plum, or blackcurrant – you choose! Just don’t include peanut butter – that’s just so wrong! 😜)

How much happiness can you spread today? Will you grab a jar of jam, a tub of butter and a slice of bread? Make it a joyfully sticky time!

Love and light,

Jim Sharman
