“The fruit of silence is prayer; the fruit of prayer is faith; the fruit of faith is love; the fruit of love is service; the fruit of service is peace.” – Mother Teresa

My usual caveat on religion applies here – replace the words that don’t apply – the overarching message though is still valid and still resonates strongly, in that being in the service of others creates its own rewards. Often these are unexpected ones.

Concluding with the connection between “service” and “peace” is a theme we see from many people devoted to their faith or central belief system, whether or not that be to a specific religion or an atheist or agnostic philosophy. Regardless of how you navigate the route to peace, it’s a wonderful space to reach and from there you can achieve so much.

You can even create a circle here by saying that the fruit of peace is silence; from the space called “peace”, you can more easily reach the space of “silence” (or meditation, mindfulness or freedom from the inner and outer noise, etc.) and make it a self-sustaining cycle of positive progression.

Back to rewards then, at times you may find yourself unexpectedly ‘winning’ in a situation or circumstance – is this an accident or coincidence……or is it the deserved fruits of your commitment? The more consciously you remain present with how these fruits are arrived at, the more likely you are to reap success and you could even start at any point listed……as each element leads on to the next.

If you start with love, for example, you can see how it’s possible to come back around to its predecessor, “faith” (or “belief” if that’s easier), because each stage feeds the next. Then you create more love. And the world needs more love, as we’ve seen before!

Where can you go today to find some silence? What prayer can you say today to bolster your belief? How much love, of any kind, can you tap into today? To whom can you be in service today? What peace within yourself can you derive from this? How much more absence of the noise of distraction, negativity or doubt can you then create by coming back to silence……?

Love and light,

Jim Sharman
