The consequences of today’s decisions will inevitably shape what happens next, so our choices are at times worthy of deep consideration prior to making them. Sometimes our choices are easy, sometimes hard – sometimes they feel impossible to make – but make them we must if we are to move forward.
The first day of a new calendar year is an auspicious one upon which to be talking about decisions, as we compete looking back on the year and instead look ahead. The month of January is named after Janus, the Roman god of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, doorways, passages, frames and endings. What better day to be considering our choices?
Well, maybe your birthday is also a good day – the end of one year, the start of another. As coincidence has it, today is both for me – New Year’s Day and my birthday. I’m not meant to be making these articles about me per se but if not on my own birthday, when can I? 🤔🤪
The decisions I made in 2021 have created all the circumstances that I face today on the first day of 2022. What I decide today will influence what happens for the rest of the year – and so will every decision made on every subsequent day this year. I also realise that my future will be determined by not only what I choose to do but why……
So, the invitation is to join me on this day and look at not only what you choose but why you are choosing it. Make your decisions central to a desire for a more positive experience not just for yourself but for all of humanity – be motivated to improve a planet already feeling the effects of the poor decisions from the past. You can make that change today.
Also, avoid the temptation to make frivolous or overly ambitious New Year Resolutions – according to a study in the University of Scranton’s Journal of Clinical Psychology, 92% of all resolutions fail in the year, 75% of them fail in the first week! Make yours count. Make them realistic, achievable, desirable and possible. Make your future stick.
What do you want to achieve this year? What future can you build for yourself, starting today? What resolve will you implement to ensure you succeed?
Love and light,
