Give up and your goal is practically certain not to succeed. What’s the point of that? It’s a wonderful victory……against yourself! Sure, it might happen that you’ve tried absolutely everything you can to keep a goal alive but nothing has worked. Then you can refocus yourself, redefine the goal, repurpose your resources.
That’s far more palatable than just giving up part way through, knowing there’s something else you could and should have tried……..the former usually presents opportunities for learning, the latter usually doesn’t.
Of course, it’s all relative, right? Is the task worth the extra effort? Is the reward far less than the energy invested in it? Is it the right time to be battling harder on something that’s not going well? Only you will know the answers to these questions. So, when you find yourself faced with such considerations, if you can be 100% honest with yourself, the decision is more easily made. And defeat need not feel deflating – it’s a good time to reflect.
As for something being worth the extra effort, maybe assessing the principles involved is the benchmark; you might be putting in a huge amount of effort into something when there is no apparent benefit to yourself………..yet you know that others will benefit greatly. Success on those terms is sometimes its own reward.
There are plenty of instances out there where the option of “defeat” is simply not present. Those involved in such events (projects, dreams, life’s ambitions, conflicts, disputes, even wars) – they do not stop – they keep going, re-evaluating along the way, absorbing the lessons learned at various stages. Their belief and passion mean they keep trying.
What are you battling at the moment which requires you to dig deep at times and not even contemplate defeat? What is that important to you? Who can help you?
Love and light,
