“Today, if we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other – that man, that woman, that child is my brother or my sister.”- Mother Teresa

We are one people, one race, one world. Everyone in it is us, we are all they, they are all you. In this line, Mother Teresa goes on to ask, “If everyone could see the image of God in his neighbour, do you think we would still need tanks and generals?”

As usual on the Daily Sharman, replace the word “God” with whatever works for you. The point is we are all connected. Why fight with your neighbour, especially when your neighbour literally consists of your brothers, sisters and children? It’s as valid a question today as ever.

If we pray, hope, yearn, strive for peace on our planet, then maybe those who have forgotten will remember whom we each belong to. Yes, we can deal with any hurt we are carrying and heal any wound inflicted. It’s a choice. Much of the struggle we see in the world is a result of a struggle within. We can find the peace that we seek within.

In finding ourselves, we then find others. Through achieving peace in ourselves, we make peace with others. Heal the inner wounded pride or ego, we heal ourselves. Heal ourselves, we can heal others……

With whom have you been struggling in your life? With whom can you make peace by first making peace with yourself?

Love and light,

Jim Sharman
